Boy Stuff

It was just us two girls growing up.  Me and my sister.  Barbie dolls, little people, cabbage patch dolls, playing house, nail polish, and dresses....  Give me my Emerson and some play time together and I know what to do!

So, being a mommy of two boys has been, um, a learning experience?!

Let's see... There's running, jumping, climbing, wrestling, throwing, and tumbles.

Then there's the toys - cars, trains, action figures, guns and cowboy hats.

And the imagination - robins and dangers (a.k.a. robbers and strangers) along with 'funder' and lightening and 'tomatoes' (tornadoes),  car racing, dangerous airplane rides, and my favorite - pretending that Braeden is the daddy and I'm his daughter (though I did have a little experience with this type of pretending as a little girl.  :) ).

Boys!

I'd like to think I've been a fast learner - I get down on my hands and knees and chase and snarl as the boys take off running and giggling down the hall.  I'll play car racing and do my best to make the fast sound effects and urrchhes to go along with it.  I'll even be the 'bad guy' while Braeden captures me and puts me in time out.

There are some of this stuff that I was not ready for, though.  This agression stuff... not sure what to do with that some days!  And sports... totally clueless.  I'm thankful that 3 and 4 year old soccer has basically no rules!  I can at least follow the game a little bit (and it doesn't hurt that they don't keep score yet!).

But I'm learning and getting the hang of it... until the next stage comes that I'm totally unprepared for!

For instance, these new discussions that have descended on our 4 year old about what it means to be a gentleman.  These discussions have included how to treat a lady, take care of his sister, and show respect and kindness to friends and strangers alike.  When we got home yesterday from an errand, Braeden, asking me to wait, rushed out of his booster seat and then out and around the car to open my door for me.  Some of it must be sinking in!

And thank goodness for a husband and daddy who is also dedicated in this endeavor, who knows all these little boy things that I never experienced or witnessed as a little girl.  He's got me covered when I'm clueless!

It's an adventure for sure.  And what a fun one!

I'm so thankful to be raising and watching and playing with these boys given to me!

Oh, and I'm so proud of myself for following the tie your brain in knots and drive you insane incredibly hard instructions to make this train set this morning (I'm not kidding - SO difficult!), only to have to tear it down at the end of the day because it takes up much of the floor space in this shared space bedroom!  Oh well, such is the life of a mommy of boys.  :)

Thanks for coming by my blog and I'm now following you back! I'm so glad I've found your site! I look forward to getting to know you better!!

I'm a boy mom too and I am so beyond clueless when it comes to playing and games and toys with them! I'm a girly girl; I was brought up with girly things. This agressive, truck driving, dirt loving behavior is new to me! Hey, maybe we can learn together, right?!

Don't worry. About the time you get good at it they will change and you will get to figure out how to put together 1000 LEGO sets. Now I just sit by and admire all his LEGO creations and try very hard to act interested when he describes exactly how he built it. Raising kids just keeps you on your toes. Good job on the train set!
